Stone therapy Massage is a complimentary therapy that dates back to ancient cultures around the world. Historically it has been suggested that the Chinese have been using heated stones for more than 2,000 years as a means to promote function of the internal organs.
The ancient Greeks and Romans used stone therapy massage in conjunction with bathing by combining heated stones with hot immersion bathing and cooling stones such as marble stones with cold pools.
Spanish healers the ‘Curanderas’ were suggested to use heated stones to help relieve period pain and cold stones to reduce bleeding following child birth. Similarly, there are records of stone therapy being used in folklore and in religious ceremonies with the intention to promote healing. Today Stone therapy is now widely used in Western treatments.
